The Ducklings Are Here

Alivya is a duck.

At least, that is what she says. Upon arriving in the land of ducks, she started making duck faces and responding to square situations with her new catchphrase, “I’m a duck!”

She rejects the Oregon Ducks, the state college mascot. She is all about the feathered variety, and not the athletically uniformed variety. Since moving to the Portland metro area, we have discovered why the duck is the state mascot.

They are everywhere! The park down the trail, as well as the local path, are often full of them, usually in mating pairs.

Mating pairs usually mean ducklings.

Mallards and ducks in pairs usually lead to ducklings.

So it was no surprise, and to much delight, when I discovered a family of ducks with their new ducklings waddling along the path near the creek. I managed to grab a couple of photos and a short video before finishing my run.

Upon reaching home, I shared my discovery with Taylor and Alivya, who promptly ran out the door to investigate with Ava, Westli, and the neighborhood kids. They managed to find them, and it was all of their roses for the day.

As suspected, the ducklings have arrived.
